A week to go until my first race. Well by this time in a week I will have finished (hopefully!), have my medal hanging round my neck and have a big grin on my face.
I have a long term plan of wanting to complete a half marathon and with this in mind I wanted to see if I could complete 10 miles before I started my 10 kilometer races. I can!
I set out to do two of my usual routes joined together, partly to avoid going near my house mid run and having the whole "I'm near home" thing going though my mind and also because I know where I'm going apart from one little bit. And that little bit was the interesting part! It's an unpaved road that goes up a small hill then sharply down the other side towards a blind corner on a country road (ie, no pavements) going up was fine but coming down the other side was a challenge - lucky there was no traffic as I hurtled round the corner! The rest of the run was uneventful, and to be honest I don't remember most of it as I think my mind tuned out for an hour or so.
Today was also the first time I'd tried running with a hydration belt on. It was a bit odd at first having two small water bottles with me as I ran, but after a few mins I didn't even notice they were there. I didn't drink much from them, but it was useful to have as a couple of swigs of the drink did help as the run went on.
So on to the final week of training before Sheffield, could of shortish runs just to keep me fresh should do the trick, but mostly I'll be resting and getting ready. I think at this rate I'll be at the start line from 5am next Sunday!
