August : A Month In Numbers

August is over, at least as far as my running is concerned and from today I'll be "Running To Beat Blood Cancer" as the Leukaemia Research tag line says.

Firstly I'm pleased to report that over at my Virgin Money Giving site I've just hit the £300.00 sponsorship mark! With gift aid that's £375.00 raise to help beat blood cancer. Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far, and don't forget if you haven't the page is still open!

So, a month in numbers. As most people know I'm a bit of a geek, and once I worked out I could download some stats from Endomondo and use them in my blog it was a no brainier.

Distance

In August I've ran 152km, which is just 8km short of my monthly target of 160km. I'm sure I could have broken it by going out tonight, but I just didn't have the time, it'll be there next month. Either way 95 miles ran in my third full month running is something to be proud of.

As the graph shows my weekly distance has been constant until the past couple of weeks when I've been out on some serious (for me) LSR's. 16km last Sunday and 14km the week before. Not sure I'll be able to keep that up going into September as three our of the five Sunday's in the month I'll be running in 10k races. Beating it is my target for October.

The monthly distance has been on the up too - May doesn't count as I only ran for a week, for about a mile a run, but you get the idea.

PB's

As mentioned in previous blogs, my 5k time has come flying down. Something I attribute to my weekly parkrun. It's gone from 25:15 to 21:32, not bad for three months work!

My 10k time looks even more impressive, down from 55:48 to 47:05 (though I think Endo has been a little generous there maybe 47:31 my Garmin gives me) even so it's still over two mins off. Who knows what kind of time I'll be able to get during September? The Salford course is nice and flat so maybe a sub 47 is a chance. Again though September will be about finishing and raising money.

I've only been out once this week and I'm itching to get out and run, at this rate I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep Saturday night! I'm sure the rest is doing me good though.

Look out for a full race report Sunday night.

  1. I'm pretty sure you'll break 45 mins at Salford - I'm gonna be trying to get under 42 (although that's a bit ambitious as it'll be well under twice my 5k best!) but Salford really is a superb PB course.
