The Road to Chester: Week 9

This is my blog as I train towards my first marathon at Chester in October.

Week 9 highlights:

  • 44 miles this week.
  • Saddleworth 6 race completed.
  • "Flat" Leamington parkrun ran.
The training plan said this week should be my highest weekly mileage but due to having a weekend away with Mrs Dan there wasn't chance for the scheduled 22 mile run so we are down a little. Next week will also be a lower week due to the Fleetwood Half Marathon on Bank Holiday Sunday.

Just three days after the Great Warford 10 mile I was back in action for the R's at the Saddleworth 6. Friends of mine had good things to say about this race and given it has been going 30 odd years they must be doing something right.

I'd been told this was a flat course and I guess it is, for Saddleworth! The hills weren't too bad apart from second time round where I did struggle to get my legs going again after the climb. I'd have liked to have dipped under 39 mins for six miles but am pleased with my time overall. Another 4th in group finish for the R's is also pleasing. Hopefully I'll be up near the top half of the group next year.....

We went away for the weekend so chance for some more parkrun tourism.

Now for some reason that escapes me now I had it in my head Leamington parkrun was flat, and fast. No. It has half the climb of my home run of Oldham. But it's all in once place. Oh and it's ran on trail and grass.

I did enjoy it even if it was very different to my usual runs. Felt like I did 4.5k in the Woodland Walk and the rest of grass. Either way I'm glad I don't have to run it every week. 20 mins dead on a course I don't know will do me.

At the end of next week is the Fleetwood Half Marathon and as I've said before I want to do under 90 mins for a half. I think I can do it: I've just got to remember not to start off too fast like I did at Blackpool back in April. I'm looking forward to it as it looks like being my last race before Chester. From next week on it's just long runs on Sunday's with the dreaded taper to come....
