Distance & Getting Lost (Part 2)

Distance : 7.75km
Time : 41:34

As I've mentioned in a previous post I use the excellent Endomondo (www.endomondo.com) to plan routes to work out where I'm going and how far it'll be.

While I was doing this it got me thinking about distance. When I started running, all those weeks ago, a mile sounded like a marathon and 5k was just in a dream world. Now I'm planning routes that look to be a decent run out but then when I've planned it I think "oh it's only 6k" Oh how things have changed!

On the flip side while out on Sunday part of the run was down a long straight duel carriage way, having traveled this road many times I thought this wouldn't take long.

Wrong.

Running this road it never ended. No far I ran the end of the road just wasn't there. Moral of the story - stick to shorter roads!

After Sundays fun and games in the industrial estate I still decided to try a new route again today. Doing the same trip night after night has limited appeal.

Fortunately I didn't get lost tonight (sorry to disappoint you) but there was a big chunk of the run where I was thinking "am I going the right way?" it took a couple of k before I reached somewhere I recognised and thankfully where I'd planned to be. Bill Bryson said getting lost was the best way to explore a new city and while this may not be quite the same thing it is a good way of finding new places, if a little scary sometimes!
