Distance: 13.1 miles
Time: We'll see.
Half marathon, sounds a bit like a cop out of doing the big 26.2?
Nope I don't think so - I see it agai as a good bridge between a 10
mile race and the 13.1 of a half.
Having completed the Stockport 10 (that's miles, not kilometers)
on 10th December in a time of 78:09 I'd begun to think about lining
up a half marathon. My long term goal was to do a half in 2013 but
wanted to see how things went at the STK10 and take it from there.

No pun intended but I've had half an eye on the Blackpool half for a
couple of months; it's a flat course down the front at Blackpool and
it's in April so it gives me time to get ready.

Over the past couple of days I've been thinking about my
performance at the Stockport 10, and while I'm pleased with the
time I know I can do better. If I had to rate my run I'd give it a 7.5/
10. Not running for the best part of a week and a half prior to the
race didn't help, but I also don't think I pushed myslef enough.

So, with that in mind I booked a place at the Blackpool half for 7/
4/13. This time however I have a full twelve week training plan
printed out including speed work, hill reps and slow distance
running. I have a couple of 10k races before April, both of which

Mad Dog especially as that is also on the flat sea front, this time at
Southport.

Being only mid December now the twelve week plan does not start
until 14/1/13 so I need to make the most of the next month and
make sure that I'm fit and ready to start the training. I'm planning
on doing a few of the sessions that are in my full plan; there are
some sessions in there I've never tried like a fartlek session,
which sounds fun but need to give it a go to see how it works. I'm
also going to do a benchmark 10k session so I can see how I'm
progressing - I'm thinking of doing a double Oldham parkrun, a bit
hilly but I know the course and won't need to stop for traffic (unless
the geese are out again!).

I don't have a time in my head yet for what I'd like to complete the
half in yet, I'm hoping that by the end of December I'll have an idea
what I should be aiming for.

I'm going to be keeping a full training diary, but this won't be here
on this blog as daily entries will be a bit dull so I'll just do a weekly
summary here. The daily entries can be found here.
