According to my training schedule today is a rest day.
Not much of a rest though being out with Dexter for a walk at 5:30am followed by a session of yoga before even thinking about breakfast.
Both the dog walking and yoga help with the running in their own way:
Nearly three years of dog walking, at quite a speed thanks to Dexter and his eagerness, appears to have given me a good base stamina. I knew all those early morning walking in the wind and rain would come in handy in the end!
I know a few people who know me will mock when I say I do yoga (you know who you are) but it has helped strengthen my muscles and make me more supple. Never before have I been able to touch my toes! It's not as relaxing as people make out, I'm too busy swearing about the pain.
I'm aiming to run five days a week for the next eight (?) weeks before I embark on the Great Yorkshire Run, I'm not looking to be the fastest just finishing before everyone packs up and goes home will do me.
Rest days are important, but I'm itching to get back out on the road and get some more miles under my belt. But I know from many people I've spoken to I do need the rest to let my body recover. Can't wait to get laced up tomorrow night though...
